All I ever wanted to be was a ballerina. I took it seriously enough to look at joining a ballet school, so was devastated to be told I was going to be - how did they put it? – “the wrong shape”. After realising that dream was over (which also put paid to the one about becoming a Formula One driver) I decided that maybe an easier option was to look for a career in theatre.
I read English at Middlesex University before attending drama school then worked for ten years as an actress. After a year in Australia I had a change of career and became a Project Manager for various recruitment advertising agencies, specialising in print and online communications. In 2005, YouTube was launched and the popularity in online video surged, along with my passion and interest in this medium. I took a business case to my MD and convinced him to let me set up a video production department at Barkers Advertising. I had fantastic opportunities as a Producer to work across the world and enable my clients to use this medium to its full potential. After successfully leading the department for five years, it was time to leave agency life and launch Lewin Hall with Karen.
Finally, I’ve found something that fills the gap of not donning a tutu or a crash helmet for a living. Plus, I still work as a dance teacher and choreographer - and there’s always the TV for the motor racing…
